I start with one on my photographs and create a tracing of the major petal structures.
Each petal is constructed independently. I look at each petal and cut out fabric of differing values - much like I would use a tube of oil paint.
With a sewing machineI use free motion sewing techniques to top stitch the pieces of fabric together.
My goal is to fill in the white space with additional color and blend the fabrics together - much like I would do with a paint brush.
Finishing involves layering the petals atop each other, adding more thread work.
I use up to 10 different colors of thread and 10-15 different values of fabric.
There are probably over 1000 pieces of fabric in one painting in the large paintings.
Paintings Size range from 18" x 18" to 24" x 24"
